Behind the gates of some of the best resorts that Playa Mujeres has to offer, you will find the beautiful Playa Mujeres Golf Club. This Greg Norman designed 18 hole course is recognized as one of the top courses in Mexico offering strategic challenges even for the top players in the game.

The course is 7218 yards, par 72 with Paspalum/SeaDwarf grass plays pretty fast on the greens, with a true roll in the fairways, that have been getting plenty of water. To those that slice, you will find that most holes water hugs the entire fairway. For those who have a slight hook, the course will favor you. The par 5’s will require some target tee shots and approach shots.

Pricing in August 2023 (off peak) is $230, but for those staying at Secrets Playa Mujeres, or Dreams Playa Mujeres, the club offers a 50% discount on greens fees. Club rental - 3 choices Taylor Made Stealth - $80, Taylor Made Stealth 2 - $89, or Titelist T300’s for $99. Carts are equipped with Visage GPS on board, and you will find 6 ice cold water bottles in the cart cooler. While out on the course, I did not come across a cart for bevereges, but I did tee off at 7am and was well ahead of the group behind me.

Logo balls range from $15 - $35 a sleeve. I used Distance for $15 a sleeve. Shirts are between $100 and $130, hats are about $50 - $60.

The course was in nice shape, minus a couple holes that had sprinklers on, and 17 with water hoses in the middle of the fairway. By 17 and 18, the water felt good in the 93 degree heat.

Favorite hole for me was hole #7. 452 yard par 4, with a sand island green. After your drive, you will find an island green for your approach shot, but not your normal island green, this one is surrounded by sand. In fact, the cart path ends and you take the cart through sand to the back of the green. I hit a great tea shot, and then with a 5 iron from 187 yards out, was 8 feet from the pin and dropped the birdie, yet another reason to make it my favorite hole.

Most challenging hole for me was hole #2. A 506 yard par 5, the length is not the issue as the wind is downhill, your tee shot should be short of the natural brush accross the fairway, but the approach to the protected green and bunkers will require a target shot to the smallest green on the course.

Hole 16 is a short par 4, under 400 yards, as you approach an evelated green, you will see the ocean as you approach. Off in the distance, you will see the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico. A picture opporunity for sure.

The Playa Mujeres Golf Course did not disappoint. While there were not many holes on the ocean like others that we have written about, it provided nature galore, and plenty of iguanas, crocodiles, and other animals. I will just leave you with my little friend.
